Tenjune New York City’s Best Place to Dance

Tenjune Nightclub NYC

Mark Birnbaum and Eugene Remm, co-founders of EMM Group, opened their first big New York nightlife sensation Tenjune back in 2006. Immediately upon opening, Tenjune was a big hit with party-goers and welcomed some big names like Kanye West and Diddy regularly. Six years later, it comes as no surprise that Tenjune is still considered one of the best places to dance in New York City.

Mark Birnbaum, Eugene Remm and Michael Hirtenstein have worked hard to sustain a reputation as being the top hospitality group on the east coast. Tenjune, located in the Meatpacking District of NYC is what started it all for EMM Group and is just one of many milestones for this trio. The club still holds lavish parties for A-list hip-hop artists and incredible events hosted by the world’s most popular rappers such as Trey Songz. After the club’s revamp last year, the full LED ceiling has become a focal point of Tenjune along with the glow in the dark art work that emanates the walls. One thing that has remained the same, the popular horseshoe-shaped dance floor that has been driven by renowned celebrity DJs while New York City socialites dance to the radiating beats.
Tenjune was named in celebration of Mark Birnbaum and Eugene Remm’s shared June 10th birthdays. Since opening in 2006, Tenjune has celebrated more than just birthdays and has kick started EMM Group’s very successful career. EMM Group has since opened Catch NYC, Catch Rooftop Lounge, Abe & Arthur’s, Lexington Brass, The Chandelier Room, SL, SL East and has even partnered up with Angel Management Group to take over Revel’s HQ Nightclub.

Mark Birnbaum on Social Media and Fashion

It's no secret that Mark Birnabum knows what he likes to wear. In the past interview with GQ he mentioned how he loves to wear John Varvatos, "I don't really need to wear anything else, for the rest of my life. He does what I want perfectly. Which is, I don't want to ever look like I'm overly dressed up. But I do want to look like someone who is somewhat put together."

However, recently something caught Mark's eye from Club Monaco. The company used Tumblr to launch its lookbook to make the announcement into both a social media experience  and an easy-to-access tool for the media. Club Monaco also  created a Tumblr theme for Tumblr’s “Theme Garden” that replicated a lookbook layout so Tumblr users are able to create their own fashion spreads.

It's very interesting to see how far things have come in the fashion industry over the years. Social media has seemed to engulf and intertwine with product launches, branding campaigns and even seasonal wardrobe roll-outs.

EMM Group frequently uses the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram to keep consumers in the know about happenings around the company. EMM looks to strategically leverage each platform to get the most out of it, not stretching itself too thin. Tumblr might be another EMM might adopt in the future.

If you're a brand out there looking to get involved with Tumblr, here are a few stats you should know courtesy of Digiday:
  • There are currently 102 million Tumblr blogs.
  • The total number of Tumblr posts to date is 44.6 billion.
  • Tumblr had 29.2 million unique visitors in March 2013.
  • Tumblr had 6.6 billion pageviews per month in March 2013.
  • The average usage days per visitor in March 2013 was 4.8.
  • Users spent 154.1 minutes on average on Tumblr (per user) in March 2013.
  • Users viewed 30.6 pages per visit on average in March 2013.
  • 17 percent of Tumblr’s U.S.-based visitors come to Tumblr via mobile devices.
  • 52 percent of Tumblr visitors are male.
  • 46.5 percent of Tumblr visitors are 18-34-years-old.
  • 67 percent of Tumblr users have no children.
  • 35.2 percent of Tumblr visitors have a household income greater than $100,000.
  • 19 percent of Tumblr visitors are Hispanic, which is is almost two times the Internet average.
  • 18.1 percent of Tumblr visitors live in the Pacific time zone.

The Endless Possibilities of New York Nightlife

The weekend is almost here and recently there was an interesting article recently published about how New York nightlife gives NYU students (who are of legal drinking age) a unique nightlife experience. As other folks who don't attend schools in urban areas the experience might be a bit different.

Living in a city like Manhattan, it offers endless options when it comes to nightlife and entertainment. EMM Group alone has a number of great restaurants and venues including CATCH, The General and Lexington Brass to name a few. Of course there are regulars and once you find a spot you love, there's the loyalty that goes along with it.

EMM Group and Mark Birnbaum wouldn't be where they are today had in not been for the regulars who showed their support over the years. It's those types of patrons along with the new ones who help make the organization what we are today.

We strive to provide the best in entertainment for each and every person who steps foot inside one of the EMM Group's establishments. Whether you're enjoying one of the delicious dishes at The General or having a night out at Catch Roof, everyone does absolutely everything they can to provide a first class experience.

As someone who has been a part of the nightlife industry for years, Mark Birnbaum knows a thing or two when it comes to the industry. Recently, a few folks took the time to put together an interesting infographic with a few facts about the nightlife industry as a whole.

Here are a few facts that stood out from the infographic:
  • Vodkas represent 56% of the most popular bottled served at nightclubs and lounges
  • Tequilas account for 20% of bottles sold overall
  • The overall average for a bottle in a VIP booth, table, or cabana is about $239.44
  • Crown Royal rounds out the top 4 most popular bottles sold. Crown was listed by 43% of all venues.
  • 67% of those in attendance will consume 2 or more drinks, shots, or cocktails on average.

From CATCH to FINALE, Mark Birnbaum has taken his industry expertise and developed some of the most innovative and successful nightlife experiences around the world. As the industry as a whole continues to evolve it's going to be interesting to see how these types of trends may or may not change in the coming years.

Summer is Almost Here

The warm weather is right around the corner and Mark Birnbaum couldn't be more excited for what's to come this spring and summer. With the recent opening of CATCH Miami, we got a sneak peek at the great weather that's hitting New York City this week. We've got outdoor seating set up at The General so you can grab some amazing food and then head over to Catch Roof for an awesome night out!

The General's outdoor seating set up for this beautiful weather
We've been having a great winter but we're excited to kick things into high gear at The Estate as well. For those who might not know, The Estate is an absolutely exquisite privately-owned property that sits across about eight acres in Sag Harbor on the north shore of Long Island.

The Hamptons home features an oversize tennis court and Olympic size pool, along with seven bedrooms, eight and a half bathrooms, six fireplaces, and over 10,000-square-feet of living and entertaining space. That means it's perfect for exclusive events, cocktail parties, private art exhibits, fashion shows, intimate concerts and so much more.

Couldn't be more excited for what's to come. Between the great press the EMM Group has been receiving and all that's in the works, it's going to be a great second half of the year!

Big Happenings for Mark Birnbaum and EMM Group

There's never a dull moment when it comes to happenings at the EMM Group. From partners Mark Birnbaum and Eugene Remm sitting down with Us Weekly to The New York Times featuring The General in its Diner's Journal. The two and the EMM Group as a whole has come a long way since its inception in 2006 and the company keeps cruising along.

Monday Night at Catch Roof and SL Miami

Monday doesn't have to be the most low-key night of the week anymore. Get your week going at one of Mark Birnbaum's best establishments on the east coast! If you're in the New York City area head over to Catch Roof and if you're down in Miami, don't hesitate to head over to SL Miami.

With incredible food, drinks and views at each location there's no better way to start your week!

In case you haven't stopped by to check out either of the great places, here's what BlackBook had to say about SL Miami:
Offshoot of the original SL in New York, this is one "ultra-lounge" that lives up to the name. More than 2,000 square feet of upscale party space fuses contemporary decor (circular banquettes, gold accents, backlit X-rays) with the dopest sound system on the beach. DJ's fly in from the four corners to keep things fresh, and sound-synchronized color schematics will help you feel the beat that much more.
And for all you folks in the Manhattan area, here is what VIBE's guide had to say about Catch Roof:
Elevator up for exclusive aerie from EMM Group peeps. Lounge wrapped in three sides of outdoor terrace. Heat lamps keep the party going even after temperatures drop. ICRAVE design places earth-toned banquettes against lacquered walls. Killer lighting, broad cylinders synched with the sound system. Panoramic MePa views have to compete with eye candy crowd.
Don't hesitate to stop by tonight for some great food and nightlife and get your week started right. Although you may be just getting going, you can start things off in a great way over at Catch Roof and SL Miami.

Mark Birnbaum's Catch Miami Heating Up South Beach

Mark Birnbaum - Catch Miami

In case you missed it, Mark Birnbaum's Catch Miami restaurant has been heating up South Beach since January of this year at the James Royal Palm hotel. The Miami New Times recently took some time to catch up with Catch Miami manager, Hardy Hill to get an inside look at the restaurant.

Here are a few highlights from the stand out article:
The dining room at Catch is studded with familiar faces. There are those you might recognize from television, such as Martha Stewart, and others you may know from movies, like Leonardo DiCaprio, Zoe Saldana, and Camilla Belle. Mostly, though, the posh SoBe restaurant swarms with people whose names you cannot recall. You know they are somebody — but that's only because everyone else looks up from their sushi and cocktails as these people walk into the room.
This restaurant offers many things that other South Beach restaurants lack. It has a local area code for its reservations line that connects to a call center in Manhattan. It has an automated phone system that includes a voicemail box exclusively for lost and found.
The restaurant's epicurean ethos is resoundingly uncomplicated: Combine miso or soy with a bit of crunch and then add some fish, fat, sugar, and spice. Take for instance the crunchy rice cakes. Fried baton-shaped rice patties are topped with bigeye tuna tartare and wasabi tobiko — flying fish roe infused with the piquant green Japanese plant. There is also a dish called crispy shrimp, whose fried crustaceans come doused in a cloyingly sweet-and-spicy dressing and served alongside spicy aioli.
Mark Birnbaum and the EMM Group knew exactly what they were doing when they brought their Manhattan-style powerhouse dining center to South Beach. Only open for a few months, the restaurant already seems to be a staple of Miami.

For more information about Catch Miami, visit EMM Group's website and take a look around.

The General's Bakery featured on ABC's Eyewitness News

ABC Catches Up With Mark Birnbaum's The General

ABC's Eyewitness news recently popped into The General to take a closer look at the delicious pastries that pastry chef Thiago Silva is cooking up.

Among the staples that Mark Birnbaum's restaurant serve include the cereal-inspired donuts. Specifically, these tasty treats come in six combos, three of which include: Fruity Pebbles with Cereal Milk, Coffee with Espresso Cream, and Coco Puffs with Coco Cream. And then there's the breakfast pretzel bomb, which is filled with egg & cheese and guests can choose between a choice of ham or bacon.

In case you were wondering, when Mark Birnbaum helped put together The General, doughnuts weren't the only thing on his mind. He brought in Top Chef Season 3 winner, Executive Chef Hung Huynh who is behind the helm in the kitchen. Open 7 days a week, The General is a bustling modern Asian mecca offering a wide range of dining experiences for all guests.

Take a look at what BlackBook had to say about the restaurant and if you're looking to see some more information regarding making a reservation or checking out its location in the heart of The Bowery, visit EMM Group's website here.

Mark Birnbaum Named to UJA 40 Under 40 List

Mark Birnbaum

UJA 40 under 40: Mark Birnbaum, Eugene Remm and More

UJA-Federation of New York unleashed their 40 under 40 list of the top movers and shakers in the New York community. Participants were chosen for their “drive, determination, achievement, character, and the ability to serve as leaders of the community.” One of those named to the list was EMM Groups own Mark Birnbaum.

Mark couldn't be more delighted to be named for such an honorable award. Through the years he has come from upstate nightlife promoter to one of the most respected hospitality moguls in the tri-state area and arguably in the country. He has been able to take concept to creation and build some of the most sought after restaurants and clubs in Manhattan.

As one of the co-founders of the EMM Group, he has created a successful hospitality business, with venues that include: FINALE at 199 Bowery in the Lower East Side, Abe & Arthur’s, SL and the iconic Tenjune in the meatpacking district, and The Chandelier Room at the W Hotel in New Jersey. Mark Birnbaum has also established CATCH and SL inside The James Royal Palm in Miami. Mark has been featured in GQ Magazine and been labeled as one of the "Kings of New York Nightlife" by Forbes Magazine.

With things not looking to slow down in the near future, Mark Birnbaum is looking forward to all that's still to come in 2013. In early 2013, Birnbaum took the CATCH concept and headed to the Miami market, opening a second location of the widely popular seafood restaurant in South Beach at the James Royal Palm. Also opening is a Miami outpost of SL at the hotel – SL Miami – that will be sure to attract the same stars and revelers that frequent EMM Group’s New York venues.

You can take a full look at the entire list of people who were named to the 40-under-40 list here. A formal 40 under 40 event is planned to take place this fall to honor Mark and all others named to the list.

Mark Birnbaum Interview with Forbes Magazine

Forbes Magazine recently took the time to sit down with Mark Birnbaum and chat about how he and his partner, Eugene Remm designed, built and run their New York hot spot, CATCH.

For those who might not remember, Mark Birnbaum actually sat down with Forbes in April of 2010 to discuss how they built their $30 million luxury nightlife empire in light of the economic downturn. Mark has come a long way since then, opening new ventures as far down the east coast as Miami.

Feel free to take a look at the above video to see how Mark Birnbaum crafted a well rounded plan from the ground up to develop one of New York City's hottest restaurants down in the Meatpacking District.

In case you also missed it, Mark recently helped take CATCH to South Beach, Miami, opening up a second location of the widely popular seafood restaurant in South Beach at the James Royal Palm.

Sprawling, 17 foot, cork-lined ceilings and a bustling South Beach dinner scene greet guests ascending to the Second Floor Dining Room. There, oversized copper drum lamps set an intimate stage, warmly washing patrons in CATCH's trademark honey-colored tones. Hand-painted details on the exposed brick walls create an ambiance like non-other, while Mark Birnbaum assures guests are able to enjoy all the essentials from the CATCH NY menu as well as newer, locally inspired dishes such as Po Little Rich Boys, The Shorecrest Roll, Kampachi Crudo and a conspicuously decadent Key Lime Donut dessert!
